I have a seagate 500GB hard in my laptop that doesn't let you copy things to the hard drive. It starts and stops, but usually I have to start over. Small things copy to it, but big items like videos and large amount of files in a folder will not copy. The hp s.m.a.r.t error 301 pops up, but when I ran error check it said that everything was fine. I'm actually using the laptop now. Can someone tell me what is going on? Is there a way to fix this?

Agree with MrMagic. Your drive is on it's way out. Replace it.
If you look in Event Viewer under System you should see hdd errors logged....

check whether HD got connected with another laptop or PC. IF yes then probably detecting issue with your laptop. If no then my friend you need new one.

Is it NTFS formatted or FAT32 ? if FAT32 then that explains why large files wont copy.
