    Hi,

I've installed Windows 7 Professional (legitimate) and Windows Virtual PC. Also, I've downloaded XP Mode and installed it. My processor supports Hyper-V. But, when starting XP Mode in my Virtual PC, it asks for activation (it is in initial grace mode). The XP Mode image does include a key, but it's not excepted. Any ideas?

so if i understand you the XP VM you installed in Windows VPC is asking for activation? It shouldn't do this because it is a OEM install of XP unless you installed XP by yourself using a different installer or something it should activate right out of the box.

Like the others said it might have something to do with 7 not being activated but as far as I know that shouldn't be possible since WVPC exe has it's own BIOS integrated into it.

It must be because your copy of windows 7 is in grace period mode and not in activated mode. I have no idea but I use XP Mode with Win7 Pro x32 and have no issues but my copy is activated dude. That would be what I would do to start and see what happens.

    NO!
My Win 7 is still not activated (waiting for a legal key that I will get in november), and XP Mode works!

Where did you download your XP Mode image?

    This might be your problem.

You probably have to use VirtualPC for Win7 instead as the Win7 XPMode image is probably exclusively for use with that version of VirtualPC.

(After all it will be integrated with your Win7 installation so this makes sense.)

VPC for Win7 comes in form of an update (.msu) and has to be installed as such.
