I just bought my w!fe an Acer Touch V5 laptop that comes preinstalled with Windows 8. I upgraded it to Windows 8.1 via the store then immediately noticed that my boot up takes an additional 2 mins, like when I restart, I just see a black blank screen for 2 mins then the boot process starts. Did a little bit of research and it seems that the culprit were the Bluetooth Drivers so I updated all the drivers from the Acer website and the boot was fine then. But my main question is, since I use StartIsBack which does give me a real start menu and I never see metro, what am I missing by not updating to 8.1 let's say if I get another laptop in the near future? The way I see it is the upgrade is more of a hassle than a convenience and gives me personally nothing exciting other than driver headaches. If I stay on Windows 8, can I continue to receive security updates or is it a mandatory upgrade to go to Windows 8.1 to be able to get the latest security updates?
