I hava VK800, bought from per mail from banggood for $31.
Hana Cell Simcard, costing $8 a year, each call $1.
In the four years I own it, made three calls, all were actually necessary
Works also as camera, mp3 player and aa wifi GPS using navfree.

Started off years ago with a Moto Razr, audio too low for me
Moto Q9h was nice but slow
    BB9900 was a bit faster

Sam S4 with a cracked screen cost $50
replaced the screen from a dead donor
    unlocked and rooted
    lots of audio, camera, WIFI

Hello! What's Cubot? I'm interested to know more about that brand. I'm only familiar with Lenovo and ZTE.

  8. My favorite is OnePlus because it has become the defacto in regards to rooting and custom firmware. Ever since Google killed the Nexus smartphone developers looked for a new "home". OnePlus embraced this - and if you look at their forums, their support team practically teaches you how to unlock the bootloader, flash, root... Plus their phones are quite good even if you don't flash new firmware.

Although they cannot really make good firmware from the beginning of development I stick to Samsung Galaxy series.
Since series 6 actually no competitor could beat their hardware, especially the screen quality.
I do not buy every new model, but if I buy I do buy their flagships....

basically, a devices need support for their operating system, also with open source kernel, it would also allow software development for the devices.
I do like like zte, lenovo (which include motorola by now), xiaomi, sony, samsung for their open source kernel, they rocks!

I have been using Samsung phones mostly until now and they have been good but now I own a Xiaomi and I am really satisfied so far, similar specs as a high end Samsung phone for much less $$$.

I have a jailbroken iphone 5s on ios 12.1.1 ios 8.3 that will never be updated to a newer ios version. Best phone I ever had. I won't buy any newer iphones just because they don't have a headphone jack. My next phone will be a rootable android with a headphone jack.

I'd always use Android mainly because i can do everything on it.
About brands, I like Samsung and 1+, my next move would be to buy a Samsung when my 3T is over.
    S9 or S10 in 2 years ;)
