Right now I downloading the 1st updates and will report any app version changes in Zorin 10 Ultimate x64. I will also install the Zorin 10 Core x64 (free) version and report the apps that come with it. (see post on previous page)
I don't know why so many distros say there are straight for beginners, nearly all Ubuntu based distros are pretty easy to start with Linux from scratch. Personally I think Mint is the easiest for daily sfuff.
I also have tried mint, and other *buntu flavors. I personally like LXLE because: 1. Excellent memory management (runs ~200mb on idle) 2. Fantastic on old hardware (Ex. 2GB ram, single core celeron! processor, GeForce 6200 video, old biostar P4 mobo) FAST! 3. Uses Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS base 4. Gorgeous wallpaper 5. Small installation footprint Give it a try, you still can run any *buntu software you want.
Thanx! My friend's SSD and more memory arrived, so we will do it from scratch, with faster SSD and 2GB memory....
LXLE Desktop looks good, never heard of this one before. A lot of the distro's that claim to be faster than Windows on old machines often don't deliver, I will give this one a go. I really like Zorin Ultimate for first time users simply because it looks and feels like Windows 7 which is so easy to just drop into. The software package is extensive and it all works, a fresh install is 10x easier than Windows. Zorin is great for someone who just wants an alternative OS that just works. I wouldn't claim that Zorin is the best, but it is a very familiar environment with very little to learn to carry out day to day tasks. Zorin Ultimate would be my first choice for a friend or relation with little tech savvy on their aging XP or Win 7 PC. I used Mint for 6 months or so, its very good but I just couldn't get into it, just a personal thing.
It seems to me this ought to be a STICKY, way before Elementary OS, sorry... Zorin OS is by far the most comprehensive L-package I have seen! Ubuntu on steroids! From my experience, that is... Zorin OS 11 Ultimate is the one, right now! Way to go, Artyom!!!
Not to forget: I installed Zorin Ultimate 11 (64b) on 2 PCs: my laptop with i5 2.6GHz/8GB of RAM/nVidia graphics card with 2GB of RAM and an older 64b PC with only 2GHz/2 GB of RAM/on-board graphics with only 64MB of shared RAM. Mine is cool and all is smooth, beautifully loaded with everything you need, more or less, including the latest Kodi, 3G graphics etc. The older PC couldn't handle it! The "light" LXLE 32b worked OK on the older PC, even though XBMC (12.x) couldn't really do the job (too laggy/jerky) - but VLC did!
Whoever wants to find it - look for torrentz search engine - Ultimate 11 64b version only, I think.... (Isohunt, Seedpeer etc.)
@EFA11 Thanks for that .... I was wondering about the very same thing . And on a side note , we shouldn't have to be using MD5 these days should we ? .... SHA-256 at the very least , surely ? -
