What is a permanent Slic?

    I want to know what means permanent Slic ? If a flash a new BIOS without SLIC the old one stays untouched ?

    I know what is SLIC , I don't know what exactly is permanent Slic ?

    It means that even if you flash a newer bios without slic, the existing slic remains untouched/overwritten - ie, it's permanent!!!

    Hmm, I suppose that would be permanent ..., but I have generally thought that permanent slic referred to one provided by the bios, rather than an emulated one injected by a boot loader or windows driver. The emulated slic would go away if disk drives were wiped and/or OS reinstalled.

    Sorry, I guess I don't know enough about what situations make the slic permanent. I have modified Award and AMI bios on some older generic motherboards, using AndyP's tools from here, and the slic certainly won't survive a reflash with an unmodded bios.

    You are correct. Most of the time you will overwrite the slic. I think it's a feature of newer Asus uefi capsules where the tool mod will remain permanent.

    If I am reading that stuff correctly, it seems a matter of how/where the slic is stored. If it gets placed in a nvram or dmi region it will survive a reflash.
