I ran our 2008/R2 keys through a PID checker and they came back as:

    Volume:CSVLK

which is: CSVLK - Microsoft Customer Support Volume License Key

What type of activation do these keys need? Our W7 keys came back as Volume:MAK.

CSVLK are KMS-host keys, for on-line (or phone) activation throigh MS.
Each key can activate 6 different machines, real or virtual.
Machines, activated with CSVLK keys, become KMS-hosts and can activate clients if they use GVLK key.
