To flash a already rooted kernel from a trusted source, like xda.
Or to decompile the original zimage into initramfs, decompile initramfs, add superuser, some commands (such like mount / unmount), busybox and change the scripts, finally rebuild initramfs and the kernel (zImage) tar it again and flash it. When doing you also can add CWM clockworkmod recovery, it's useful to backup your system. When decompiling the kernel you should be familiar with Linux. I wasn't and it took me a lot of time to figure even easy commands at scripts.
I did it for learning purposes only. Since android gets updated many times you better flash a already rooted kernel found at xda forums.
