yet again windows has reset windows update settings to default and some other settings like showing hidden files. what causes this? settings have been set default through win registry directly, not in gpedit, gpedit still shows it is set. i found something in logs about "edge update", but it's a long shot. os: windows server 2022 build: 10.0.20348
answering late for this. it turned out to be antivirus software, not ms defender. i don't like to name it here, unless someone asks. when antivirus detected malware, it also reset some settings, like windows update and showing hidden files. this is annoying example. how arrogant and overbearing antivirus programs have become. you guys probably think i have lot of malware in my windows installations. hint, file was downloaded through this website.
