Kaspersky free is basic, proactive protection "system watcher" is not there in the free version.

Avast free is fine. Just install File, Web and Behavior shields. After install, you can enable "hardened mode" - set it to "aggressive mode".

Replace Ad-Muncher with AdGuard. After AdGuard install, go to settings - adblocker - add filters, social, spyware and annoyances (click add filter - these filters will be on the top).
And, you can enable "stealth mode" and under stealth mode - enable "block webrtc" - helps protect webrtc leaks when using VPN.
settings - extensions - you can enable "wot", if you want.

KIS - Kaspersky Internet Security, I use it for free, every 3 months I reset licence with the help of special tool, and I don't have any problems with viruses or malware.

Trial resetter itself is sort of warez thing no? Or is there a clean technique for that?

Either way Kaspersky is possibly the best total solution. Once I upgrade to win10 I'll add KTS to my system & hope Emsi don't throw out popup tantrums.

Yep, trial resetter is warez thing.
And Yes, Kaspersky has effective protection layers and the best total solution. Why would you use Emsi with Kasp?

Kaspersky free + Windows 10 default firewall. For web browsing I use ublock extension in chrome and edge then select the filters i need. Default ublock ones plus EasyList and Adguard filters are good enough for me although avoid using too many since they can break website display and function.
