my laptop is an alienware 17 r5 i9. it has an nvme ssd so i had set the storage controller mode to ahci in the bios and windows 10 is using the ahci driver

i gave my laptop to a service center and i am getting a motherboard replacement because my motherboard has problems. what will the default storage controller mode be in the bios of the new motherboard? raid or ahci?

if it's unknown then the ideal thing is to run the bios before windows starts and make sure that the storage controller is set to ahci mode and then windows will run because it already has the ahci driver. correct?

if the storage controller mode was set to raid and windows already has the ahci driver then what will happen? will windows start or no?

if windows started then what will happen? will the ahci driver still be there or it will go away? will the intel rapid storage technology driver get installed on its own or no?

what will the procedure be to set the storage controller mode back to ahci if windows started while the storage controller mode was set to raid? just directly change the storage controller mode back to ahci and then windows will start? or the laptop must be set to start in safe mode before the change is made in the bios?

I would think that it doesn't matters as you don't have a raid setup. Strange that the bios would have raid as default.
If you do get it back & it bluescreens, upon reboot just change it back to ahci. No harm done.

The problem you can run into is Microsoft considers a New Motherboard as a New Computer & chances are you will loose Activation & need a New Key to reactivate.

When the replacement is done withing the OEM/MSFT specs, that should not be a problem.
