MS recently announced an upcoming major public update for Windows 10. Does anyone know the version of the update (14xxx?) ?

Since 1511-10586 update came out, have there been any performance optimizations? I am just curious because the last update 10586 practically required a brand new OS install over 10240 RTM release. I'm a gamer and unless the upcoming major update comes with performance optimizations, I can't be bothered with another super-huge OS install of new Windows version over the one I use, which is 1511-10586.

MS lists a ton of UI updates. There's NO WAY that's all that they are changing. It wouldn't take them that much time to add some nifty features here and there...

Afaik you'll get the official RS1 um und drum july 2016, and it will be the same process as with 10240 (TH1) > 10586 (TH2) ;)
