Hey all, this is what I'm planning to do...

I'm planning to install, fresh copies, of Window 10 rtm builds on three of my computers at home. I'm currently a Microsoft Insider person for all 3. I don't currently have a licence for any of them.

    Questions are...

    1) How long do you think, going by past experiences, will RTM hit the timebomb?

    2) I'm doing this, in hope, to get a bit cheaper Windows 8.1 licences come July 31st. Will I be able to enter a Windows 8.1 key into Windows 10 and it will then activate within Windows 10?

Thanks for your help guys. Just trying to find the best way to do one nice clean install for all three without having to do it again when I get the licences.

Fortunately you seem to be the only one with that problem . Did you even dare to look around and search a bit.

technically if you agree to keep using insider builds and test the next version of windows your never gonna hit the time bomb if i was youd id consider that option "but make sure those pcs are on slow ring"

i bet though a sale will take place after july 31st offering windows 10 pro for 50 bucks for maybe a month or 2

    I don't believe so my friend :)
You'll have to roll back put the key and then upgrade back to windows 10.
I wish they would allow 8.1 or 7 keys to be put into windows 10 but sadly they won't do that
This method is so that your opted out of insiders come GA date

It is possible they will setup a site to key trade though.

Yeah that's a shame. A key trading site would be awesome too. Soooo...

I'll have to install either windows 7/8/8.1, depending what cheap key I can find, then upgrade to 10. Once that is done then get a Windows 10 iso and do a fresh install with the 3 different MSA accounts. Am I right here? All accounts will of course be opt out of insider.

As of now that's correct and then just opt out. The only thing is...if you go back to windows 7 or 8.1 you won't be able to get windows 10 on the 29th. You'll have to wait behind the 5 million insiders that are upgrading. I'm gonna stick with 10 so I can snag an ISO on the first day from windows update :D Don't feel like waiting in line

So for now, your suggestion would be to stay in the insider, go on slow ring, and this should buy me some time to get a cheap licence, and who knows, maybe also a easy way to activate a already installed windows 10 with valid key.

Do you think you would be able to ring microsoft and ask for a windows 7 key be changed to a windows 10 key?

Right now MS Accounts are required to update to new Builds in Windows Update, so you can just run a local account 99% of the time (perhaps until your particular Build expires) then update to a new one by logging in to your MS Account.

    Ya basically like this

    1. If you start heading back to Windows 7 you're Gonna have to reserve your upgrade and then wait behind all the insiders to get it
    2. My point is that if you stay on windows 10 insider preview and wait on the 29th you can probably capture a download link from windows update and then grab the ISO (Or you wait for somebody to start uploading links of the GA ISO)
    3. Once you have your ISO on the 29th your good. Now to back to windows 7 put the key and then upgrade with the ISO :D
    4. You're done bud!! :) You get it on the first day

So to sum it up. You can head back to windows 7 and wait for somebody to upload the GA ISO
Or you can stay on windows 10 stay on the current ring and capture a download link to the ISO :)

Grab ISO and work from there :)

Hope I didn't make this too confusing :D

Are you sure that ISO will be as vanilla as that? If that were the case then why even push it out to a billion PCs..post the ISO and say there it is everybody, have at it. I have a feeling the ISO may be customized and that is why you wait until after you upgrade to get it..but like with everything else with this, that's just a guess.

Make sure it's a legit key, a lot of fakes going around, the only way to tell is buy it from someone big with name you heard before:D

Where are you getting this, MS is downloading RTM to computers prior to 29 like a rolling download so servers won't be overloaded, even though it is downloaded to your computer prior to 29 Jul, you will not be able to install until the 29th:D
Show me a link where it says what you say?
