I need to reset the service tag on my dell e5440 because I replaced the motherboard, so I downloaded the SVCTAG 3.4 (A28) and svctag.exe said my machine wasnt supported, and asset.com said that it "couldn't change the service tag." I found this pastebin (can't post link, a9aZFcnu is the id) that had a rapidshare link to a Rev A34 copy but since rapidshare is gone its undownloadable. Does anyone have it downloaded so I can try it on my laptop?
There was no newer version of Svctag than A28. The newer UEFI based Dell laptops (~2009 and newer) used a different utility and you needed to be inside Dell's internal factory network for it to work. The only other way I've heard that works is to dump your BIOS chip using a programmer, wipe the service tag in the dump and then reflash using the programmer. Since the service tag is now blank, it unlocks the internal service tag change menu and lets you set a new service tag.
