My favorite antivirus Kaspersky will not install on the 8.1 RTM which was a real downer for me. Does anyone know of which antivirus programs officially support Windows 8.1? Preferably a press statement on the company website which says so would be great.

    Thanks for all your input!!

nothing, using it her as well. Let my NIS expire. I still have it on my kids PCs that need an extra extra level of security though.

I guess I don't understand how ANYTHING can officially support Win8.1 since it is not OFFICIALLY released yet, there is more to come from MS than these iso's.

The problem with lists like that is that companies pay to get on them.

How about a stand-alone (not bundled with virus/malware modules) third-party application-based firewall for windows 8/8.1?

The feature I want out of a firewall is being notified when applications do net activity (phone home) for really no reason, or worse, to report use data like kmplayer, smplayer, and other apps do. I don't want virus or malware functions, just application-based outbound notifications. Sygate did this great on XP, PC Tools Firewall did this great on Win7, but sadly symantec bought both of those and closed them down.

I've been using Tiny Firewall on Win8, but it is not ideal.

    You're right to some extend!

But, the AV developers (if they want!) getting vital infos from MS, upfront of new releases, for to be able to produce working apps!

Same happen to the Hardware Developers for to produce drivers!

Best solution for an such Firewall is to use either an real Hardware Firewall like Netscreen etc, or use an Software firewall running on it's own Computer and system and handle's the complete traffic for the whole network like Smoothwall Express. In both cases, that would also free up quite a bit of resources which are normally used by the firewall running within the workstation on that's OS!
