    Hi all,

I apologize if this question has already been answered but I didn't find the answer on the forum

After reading the entire forum carefully, I can't understand what is the best version of windows 10.
I see that windows 10 version 1809 is still up to date in the forum and that a lot of people prefer this version.
How is the 1909 version different?

I have a new computer and I need to install windows 10, 70% games and the rest web and some work.

Which version should I install? Why do you still prefer the 1809 version?

    thanks for listening
    Best regards

Everyone has their own preference, the 1809 users most likely run 2019 LTSC (i would not go for 1809 when the new hardware is a ryzen zen based system).

At the moment i run it too but personally i like 1903/9 more, and when 2004 gets a fix for the defrag/optimize bug, i will go with that one asap.

  3. Windows 10, version 1809 will only get updates for the Home and Pro versions until May 12, 2020. Updates for the Enterprise and Education versions will be available until May 11, 2021.
Windows 10, version 1909 is the latest version, it will get updates until at least May 11, 2021.
And then there's Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019. It is based on Windows 10, version 1809 and will get updates at least until January 9, 2024.

If you want to have all the new features, use the 1909. If you want a stable system with some new features, use the 1809.
If you want to have a stable system without Microsoft Store and Metro apps, then use Enterprise LTSC 2019.

But everyone has a different opinion.

The best version of Windows 10, like anything else is subjective. A matter of personal preference. For me personally, at the moment 1909 Enterprise.

  5. And I am using Windows 10 Enterprise Insider Preview as my main OS:

Given your replies, go with 1909, ent or edu for telemetry 0 settings or just use pro if you don't mind or know about the settings.

And yes, normal Enterprise has the store available.

Subjective aspects of different Windows 10 builds/versions/editions are statistically insignificant (talking about the very small UI differences).
For the vast majority of other aspects, it's all quantifiable, hence rateable.
    - The best version for old PCs out of oem support is Windows 10 version 1607, edition Enterprise LTSB. Newer builds will run apparently fine, until they don't. Specially if having legacy-ed GPU by chip manufacturer.
    - The best version for tin-foil-hat-wearing, anti-vax people is Windows 10 version 1809, edition Enterprise LTSC. So they say. Does not matter that it's a piece of s**t half-arsed build, or being less secure on a home PC. The fear of updates trumps reason.
    - The best version of Windows 10 so far is the upcoming 2004, hands down. But running Insider preview versions is not recommended, the amount of trashing telemetry, debug overhead, and bugs is surreal. So patience.
    - The next best version for any PC built in the last couple of years is the current one, atm 1903/1909, and the edition Education (from consumer iso). It might seem strange, but it really tops Enterprise for home PCs. But if you're not even gonna use group policies, any consumer editions like Pro or Home would do, really. Pro for Education is a gimmick = trash. Pro for Workstation is also a gimmick, but not trash. Most of what it is offering won't be used (or is a bad idea to be used) in a home PC, tough.

All editions have Microsoft Store except version 1607 Enterprise 2016 LTSB and version 1809 Enterprise 2019 LTSC. That you should not run on your new PC. So just download the current official 1909 consumer ISO and pick whatever edition.

Excuse me sir but I often see you saying that Education is better than Enterprise. How so exactly? Having used them both, I can't tell the difference between them. But f*ck home, pro and LTSC and the horse they road in on!

    Oh and this...
Is hands down the best comment in the history of this forum!! :worthy:

Data Deduplication. Yes I know it is an unsupported usage scenario on non-Server SKU's but I use it. And since there are no 19041 Server builds released at the moment and they for some reason jumped the Server IP builds to vNext. I'll stick with 1909.

OP... did you do a choice ..??
I have a lot of trouble on my core 2 duo 8400Mhz with the 2004 20H1 version then I'll try the education version because disable by default things on the Education policies.
Problem is I don't know how to activated if is needed....

There will be no difference in compatibility or performance between the different skus from one major build.

All can be activated by KMS_VL_ALL or HWID.
