Help I think something might be wrong with my Technet account. I can download WHS 2011 but it is only giving two product keys. WTH?, I thought it always gave 5 keys. And... this is really strange, I can also now download Small Business Server 2011 Essentials but there are no product keys available to me at all. Did you guys get more than two product keys for WHS 2011? Did you get any keys for Small Business Server 2011 Essentials?
Well, yes and no. Some products like Windows Server 2008 R2 give one MAK for each version. MAK's have many activations on each. Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter and Itanium *****-*****-*****-*****-***** MultipleActivation 1 / 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard and Enterprise *****-*****-*****-*****-***** MultipleActivation 1 / 1 Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 and Windows Web Server 2008 R2 *****-*****-*****-*****-***** MultipleActivation 1 / 1 But, Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 Retail 5 / 5 *****-*****-*****-*****-***** *****-*****-*****-*****-***** *****-*****-*****-*****-***** *****-*****-*****-*****-***** *****-*****-*****-*****-*****
No, I just checked again and TechNet Professional gives 5 keys for WHS version 1, so I am still puzzled as to why WHS 2011 only gives two.
nice. Torko26, are you able to retrieve product keys for Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials today on MSDN. I have the downloads for it but it's not giving me any keys on Technet Professional. Also, are you getting keys for Windows Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials and are they retail or OEM keys?
for Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials ->> There are no keys for this product for Windows Storage Server Essentials 2008 R2 Embedded ->> No key is required for this product
Thank you torko26 for this valuable information. I thought something was wrong with my account since unlike other products it does not explicitly say "no key is required" for SBS 2011 Essentials. I have Technet Professional and not MSDN, so no access to Windows Storage Server Essentials 2008 R2 for me, though I would like to try it out.
Unfortunate news... I have confirmed, a product key is needed for Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials. But... the keys are still not on Technet (or MSDN apparently). Just one more in a long series Technet screwups by Microsoft.
Maybe the Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard keys good for Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials not tried yet
I Dl (off TechNet) & installed this one yesterday. This install took +6 minutes longer than the RC on the WHS rig. Has anyone else noticed this?
I ended up getting Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials (there is no embedded version afaik) yesterday. So far it looks like it's all the same as WHS 2011 except it supports up to 25 users, rather than 10. Am I missing something here? Why would MS make so many different products with so little difference? :/
