i went through every post i can find here and lots of info about SLIC bios and loaders, but came short on clear answer. i want to install whs(v1) on my server system specs asus p5ql-e 4gig ddr2 q6600 5x2tb (1x hitachi 7200, 2x seagate 5900rpm green, 2x wd green 5400) i did see a dell bios mod for this board for SLIC 2.1 if i use this SLIC, and then use a dell OEM WHS image to install will this copy be activated and fully working including updates(assuming i follow OEM activation procedures found on this site)? or if any one point me to a good tutorial for WHS activation? please help
i was planing to use this tutorial "hxxp://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/25428-Convert-Windows-Home-Server-PP3-Trial-to-OEM" also i read somewhere that WHS does not use slic but it uses slp? what is the differance the slic i was going to use is one of those posted on this post "hxxp://forums.mydigitallife.net/threads/7500-All-Slics-2.1-(Modded-Bios-List)-Note-For-requests-use-Bios-Mod-Requests-section" it has one for my bios p5ql-e will this work?
SLP -> For XP/2003/2003 R2 SLIC 2.0 -> For Vista/2008 SLIC 2.1 -> For 7/2008 R2 If ur modded bios has SLP string(s) that are listed in the tutorial, then u r OK!!
Hi, First time on the forum and looking for a quick pointer, I've got an old shuttle p4 with phoenix bios I want to use but can't quite figure out how to get SLP into the bios. I know YEN said: "You know at Phoenix there is no need to mod the bios. You simply can add the SLP string and flash the original bios again using MODE=3 (update bios and renew DMI). For OEM Vendors like Acer it always works. Example: phlash16.exe kaw6100.WPH /X /S /mode=3 /DVM:AcerSystem To update more DMI check for additional switches of phlash16" but I don't have a .WPH file only the shuttle bios in a .bin format also where do you specify the CRC value you need to set to match up with the Home Server OEMBIOS Files? Thanks for the help!
devils-haven, stop whinging & just learn a bit about SLP 1 offline activation (XP section is versy good for it, as are the stickies for Server 2003 above) sebus
which wine are you referring to? i only posted the original topic, didn't reply to it yet perhaps you are referring to the other guys taking over this thread?
For WHS v1, use the OEMBIOS test utility to see if your BIOS already has the proper SLP string. The tool will tell you which OEMBIOS set should you use to build the ISO that will be preactivated with the existing BIOS. If the OEMBIOS test utility tells you that "None of the 18 contained OEMBIOS sets will preactivate this system", then there are two possibilities: - either you're lucky and simply tattooing the BIOS for the proper OEM manufacturer will be sufficient - or if tattooing doesn't work, then you'll have to mod the BIOS and include the necessary SLP string. You may want to also include the matching SLIC 2.1 if you want to later use the board for Windows 7 or Vista.
