One more question... what's a good free av or internet security suite for WHS? I am trying to find one but all I see are paid (eg avast server edition). I have a norton subscription for 2 years but apparently WHS does not support NIS 2009-2011 (key upgradable). As I will be downloading, maybe torrents too, I wana be at least a bit secure like. Any recommendations are welcome from other posters!!
Thinking, if compatible, I will use Symantec Endpoint Protection. Unsure if x86 or x64 but again we shall see, I am told there can be issues but when it works it works well. Kinda need AV+FW when I have guests on the network at times with unclean PC's. I shall report back when I get all up and running, maybe a few screenies of stuff working
Right parts arrived today! Assembling as I speak, as for as the OEM thing goes its just a matter of tatooing the BIOS again yeah?
for anti-virus on my home sever I use WHSclamAV mainly because its free and seems to be the only free AV for it LOL seems fine to me updates daily not using to much of anything ....seems fine. whsclamav.sourceforge.net/downloads advanced admin console & lights out are great add-ons as is disk manager LOL i even paid for disk manager
Hi lads, quick update just. Started a new job this week so I am knackered! Not much time either but I got WHS up and going, OEM SLP activated fine. Running Symantec Endpoint Protection V12 as the antivirus/firewall uTorrent much better than MLDonkey!! Anyway hopefully post more when I get some free time at weekend!
I have them both installed now sir, LightsOut is a trial though >.< Server otherwise running great, temps never above 55 for CPU even when i work it hard on winRAR.
Better watch that SEP! I had it running on WHS v.1 fine, but Vail it would ruin during scanning - running out of memory, perhaps. Also use a drive not in the pool for utorrent downloads. Otherwise you will sooner or later get file errors.
Il do that for the torrents when I got the data off me nas and the 2 x 1TB hdd's installed. As for SEP seems fine so far, I am running 2GB DDR2 and seems fine, then again I am using a 74GB raptor I have laid about for the OS drive!
