Alright this is unexpected. I mean Canary is supposed to be their very latest code, with loads of internal changes which would lead to a more unstable OS. However that is not what I'm seeing here. On the contrary... Builds 27774 and 27808 (to which I upgraded to from 27774)... are both very stable and buttery smooth to use. Even more so than 26100 or 22631 for example. Is Microsoft cooking some "special sauce" onto these Selenium builds or is this just because they have almost no user facing features, therefore, being more stable? If this is the base for Windows vNext/12, then we can expect it to be much better than Win11!
This is just my speculation. I think the reason Stable is unstable is because of updates. I feel that if they stay with the initial build, 26100.1742, there probably won't be many problems. Also, on a fundamental level, the number of users of Stable and Canary is completely different, so I don't think you can make a simple comparison. But even taking that into account, I agree that Canary is more stable.
Yep. Server is on Germanium still. But I wouldn't be surprised if selenium ends up as the base for Server 2028 due to this increased stability.
Canary gets 100% of MS attention, it is literally designed to have bugs fixed ASAP. Stable version in comparison have bugs fixed every 2 weeks and even that can be delayed. There is no rush in the stable version, it is for masses, not Enterprises.
Canary is not for Enterprises either... Enterprises care for security and compatibility, which is why they stick to LTSC, but 24H2 is still very new, even for LTSC advantages. Windows 10 LTSC is the most compatible, but not the most secure. Windows 11 24H2 is the opposite. Lack of compatibility tends to break work flow more often than lack of security. Compatibility breakage is more visible and distracting. Security breaches tend to be stealthy until poop hits the fan...
Canary has a much fresher codebase full of bug fixes that will make it (depending if it will be an enablement package or not) to the next feature update. It's like why CentOS Stream is stable. It's not inherently much different, it is mainly just different bugs
Using Canary as my main OS for three months and I love it: more stable and polished! I'll never go back again!
