Why ASUS SLIC for non-ASUS boards?

    Why do the BIOS mods add ASUS SLICs to non-ASUS boards? For example, is it not possible to add a Gigabyte SLIC to a Gigabyte BIOS?

    Does the BIOS mod change any other information -- do system info tools see modded boards as ASUS instead of the right brand?
