i installed windows 10 build 2004 on my laptop on oct 2020. my laptop has c: which is an nvme ssd and d: which is an hdd a few days ago i was watching a movie on d: by using vlc player and i heard static and the audio cut for a few seconds and then it came back. i did rewind and i played that part again. it played normally and the audio didn't cut. after that the movie finished and i closed it by saying alt file then exit. normally the movie closes instantly and sometimes it takes a few seconds to close. this time it took around 30seconds. i opened the movie again and i closed it. it closed instantly the next time. i checked the event viewer for anything weird. i found a warning entry in system by stornvme and the warning message said "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort1, was issued." and the time of the entry was when i was watching the movie after that i clicked on filter event log to see if i had gotten that warning before. the event log viewer froze and it became unresponsive and the spinning blue circle showed next to the mouse pointer. i could move the mouse pointer. 30 seconds later i got the whea bsod. it was stuck on 0% for some time so i did force shut down and i didn't wait. i checked for dump files. c:\windows\minidump was empty but there was a memory.dmp file but it was corrupted because i did force shut down. i again did filter event log and i searched for event id 129 which is for the stornvme warning and i saw that there was only one i asked someone to analyze the memory.dmp file. he said:- "the WHEA error argument 1 shows “Device Driver error”. Towards the end of the dump, the failed module shows “GenuineIntel” and the image name is “GenuineIntel.sys”. From these two limited piece of information, it would seem something is wrong between the SSD and the chipset, or the PCIe bus if it’s primary drive using the cpu lane. I would try update all PCIe bus controller driver and chipset drivers." please answer my questions:- 1) why did i get the stornvme warning suddenly now for no reason at all and after 1.5 years of me on 2004? is it due to a rare windows bug? for example i had opened the laptop lid and woken up the laptop from sleep many times since oct 2020 and then suddenly on jan 2022 the laptop screen was black when i opened the laptop lid. the laptop screen didn't wake up from sleep and that's due to a rare windows bug. is the stornvme warning also like that? 2) i found out that GenuineIntel.sys has caused whea bsod for other people. however, the way that it happened to me makes no sense. why did the event viewer freeze when i clicked on filter event view? what does GenuineIntel.sys have to do with filter event log? 3) did the stornvme warning cause GenuineIntel.sys to cause the whea bsod or they are unrelated? the stornvme warning happened at 8:40pm and the bsod happened at 9pm
1) samsung 970 evo plus 2) i am on the default ahci driver of windows. i haven't installed the samsung nvme driver 3) this is the smart info of both hard disks:-
Before speculating anything, it would better if we can take a look at the minidump file. On another note, opting for the Smasung NVMe driver (for the SSD) and the appropriate SATA controller driver (I guess it's an Intel chipset?) should give you better performance than the inbox drivers.
i already said that there is no minidump file and there only is a memory.dmp file which is corrupted because i did force shutdown in the bsod screen when it said 0%. the guy who analyzed the memory.dmp file said that GenuineIntel.sys caused the whea bsod. that means that me pressing filter events in the event viewer caused a clash between GenuineIntel.sys and the windows processes and that triggered the bsod
