HA! It took me all of about 10 minutes to remove Windows 10 and zero my hard drive! I am surprised that I didn't see any reference to it being just a giant piece of data mining adware.
I do love Windows 7 and I keep it untouched as my main OS but I also love many things about Windows 10 despite many minor glitches so I keep it on separate partitions to experiment and tweak. On my hardware Windows 7 is the fastest (tweaked for speed) - many people seem to forget that in Windows 8/8.1/10 the desktop appears very early in the boot process giving the impression that it is "faster" but the OS is still loading with many applications being lethargic at the start. Applications do open and operate at similar speeds across all OS versions - give or take a few milliseconds depending on how you tweak it.
I will remove all posts concerning the discussion so there are no more members commenting better for all
I agree, there's no massive performance benefits. All I see is, windows has moved to the social media style to get a part of the mobile pie that seems to be the new thing. I would like to see what will happen when we get the newest DX 12 games, this is suppose to change things up. As for storage, RAID has no benefit with 10 and have gone through all the 14 series RST, EFI Sata drivers, this is the UEFI RST firmware, not talking about controller drivers. But with the match of 14 series EFI drivers and the 14 series controller drivers, win 7 and the 13 series seems to be the best. Looking forward to seeing what NVME can do though, this blows away Sata 3 and puts it to shame, so in time will be seeing new Intel drivers for this new interface and if win 10 can bring performance above Sata 3 for OS performance. Can't wait to see what Skylake, LGA 1151 with three M2 and PCI-E with PLX delivers off of win 10. Hope that it does or there's no reason for me to stay with 10, I'm too far from being a social butterfly.
Seriously????? You are mad because MS has made it quicker to download updates??? This is going to save me so much time and bandwidth. One of the smartest things they have done in a while.
You think you are a power user? So use some of that power. 1) Install the Enterprise LTSB [N] version 2) Install classic shell 3) Disable/delete/remove all the privacy threatening settings/services/apps, there are already some automated scripts to do it auto-magically 4) don't use an MS account 5) Use a decent browser like Vivaldi, Otter or Opera 6) Optionally use aero8 to get the transparencies back You'll end with a sort of Win 7 V2, a way better Win7 P.S. Don't trust some stupid benchmarks, W10 (as W8) is way faster than win7 in almost every function
I hope that was sarcastic. As MDL stands for reviewing the digital world, I don't see anything in about MDL that say's it's all about helping people with tech.
You have nothing to be sorry about. IMO, the information you posted was succinct and informative. @Others at MDL: When you post an insulting or acerbic reply to another persons post, not only do you detract from your own reputation, but you risk detracting from the reputation of MDL. Personally, I could care less what you do at other forums around the internet, but I get annoyed when I see posts at various forums calling MDL "a forum filled with nasty people" or worse, "a forum with arrogant a$$holes", So please. For the sake of MDL keep your nasty replies to a minimum. In all threads. :MJ
I'd like to point out that you are not required to use an OS from microsoft. There are other options out there such as holy crap LINUX. Also for the sake of common sense you can post information. That shows why it's a bad OS but please keep your opinion to yourself so others can form their own opinion. You are again not required to use Windows 10 hell I don't even use it as a primary OS yet. I have no idea why you thought it necessary to blast the OS which is brand new. I am probably one of the least bias people here because I've been punted from the forum once. I take issue with you saying the forum is full assholes. Every forum on the internet has a bad egg deal with it.
I have an Intel 750 PCIe 1.2TB SSD and the performance went down by 20% in benchmarks and boot time is no better than it was in Windows 7, part of that is due to the delay in the initialization of a PCIe SSD from the BIOS but Windows 10 didn't improve the actual boot time of the OS with this PCIe SSD, although to be fair Windows 10 does boot in the matter of 8 seconds on my wife's laptop that I did a clean install of Win 10 on but that is a regular SSD not PCIe.
Just added a new point to the original post that I remembered, CUDA does NOT WORK in Windows 10, please check point #7 in the original post.
And??? You should know by now that when a new OS is released the driver performance is always spotty at best. At best I can see that your merely nitpicking an OS that still has issues. To make judgement on an Operating system so new is premature at best.
Thanks. Yes I have been trying to explain to people there's really no benefit over Sata 3 for basic OS operation, including boot, especially when your using a real boot like ultra boot running pure UEFI with GOP support. Not saying anything bad as that 750 will rock with data movement and see some benefits in the video world. You're lucky with that 1.2 TB 750, wish I had one.
The OS was in a long term BETA being tested by everyone, everyone sending their feedback to improve it, it's like the whole world helped in building what should've been the best OS till date, but it still seems like a BETA OS with all those quirks and performance issues I've experienced.
The OS will never be complete because it's based on windows as a service (waas) It will only continue getting better The only time it's complete is when It reaches End of Support.
@odiebugs: No. It's not "all about helping others". But that's a big part of what this place is about. Have you ever been in the chat box? I have witnessed at least 6 members help others there. On multiple occasions. And while you're at, take a stroll around the various threads. You'll see all kinds of examples of members helping other members. Now I'm not saying that you should help people. That's your choice. But if how you conduct yourself here has a negative effect on the reputation of MDL, then I for one do not think it's acceptable. take my words with a grain of salt. No offence is meant. :MJ
