Yesterday I clean installed and activated Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro on my second computer and in Windows Update settings I selected "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" after which Windows Update started checking for updates by itself. It, however, took a really long time (around half an hour) to present me with updates despite my internet connection being a superfast 100 Mbps. Is such a long delay normal nowadays with Windows 8.1 (and all of its SKUs & variants) considering its basically the last priority for the Windows team now with Windows 11 released? I remember till two years ago, when I used to still run Windows 8.1 Pro, there was no such issue. I wonder why this is happening and is there a solution for it?
- disable automatic updates - stop wuauserv service - install KB5001403 - install KB3172614 - reboot - search for updates
I tried this method yesterday with no luck, installed both patches and even after leaving the computer overnight it didnt work
hmm very strange, because yesterday I installed the W8.1 EIE x64 on another of my machines and it took +- 90 minutes to complete approximately 180 updates (no problems); it is good to remember that the speed of my Internet is 200 Mbps ...
It's not about installing them, it's about the bug that was solved long time ago, about WU taking ages to find any update to install (same was on 7, iirc).
Update root certificate install last ssu and lcu and after search update ( update root certificate and ssu are the best methode to speed up search ( works for windows vista up to windows 10 ( old build )
