why people choose the old calculator and dislike the new calculator app.? same for photo.snipping tool ect.?? is there a reason to avoid the new apps and use the old ones.?
I think it's the same as when a new OS comes out and some people stick to the old one. It doesn't just apply to OS or software, there will always be people with that rebellious spirit. In my case, I have no intention of using store apps, so I have deleted the store itself.
Because of the store infrastucture itself. What was previously accomplished with one .exe and maybe some .dlls, now "needs" at least a dozen services and megabytes of files and RAM, while it does exactly the same job. Not to mention the potential privacy and/or stabililty issues... And last but not least, the whole purpose of the Store (any store, be it Android or IOs) is to create a walled garden and trap you inside, preferably charging you in the future for every breath you take.
Old apps are simple exe, new apps are UWP, in other words, slow and buggy. Just like control panel, which opens instantly vs Settings, which opens for 5-10 secs. When new Calc was introduced, it took several secs to open, I could have done calculations in the old calc till it opened. It is better now, but still a scripted nightmare. Sometimes there is literally a loading bar in Settings, because it tries to load all the from the internet. I have plenty of time to take a screenshot.
Could you give me a reason WHY we should switch? Does the new calculator give better results? Most of us, who have been around M$ long enough have noticed that "improvements" on apps like that will bring advantages to M$, but none to the users. I do not know a single person, that has not deleted that Store.. there is a very nice tool, called winscript, that allows you to delete a lot of the garbage on Win 11
There is telemetry involved in the new Calculator app, the new Photos app, and in any new app that Microsoft forces on us.
Some say so. I know for a fact that it has to connect to the Internet because it includes currency conversion and has to update the exchange values.
I know it's a useless comment, but I still use Powertoy Calc on every Windows OS, I use it pretty much every day. It does require a little tweaking to work, but this is the one I like the best. I'm still amazed at all the junk Microsoft has added to Windows over the last few decades, but can't provide some basic tools like a decent text editor, word processor and calculator.
Yes, I think so. I do not trust that telemetry is NOT disabled unless I am completely offline -- as in disconnected from the internet and on a tethered connection to my printer.
I only use IrfanView to browse pictures, Except for the screenshot tool, I have never used any of the built-in programs in the system.
