I think you need to a genuine key install when you actually doing the upgrade. so the answer i believe is NO. But there is a post here somewhere where I think you can just install Win 8 RTM PRO then activated with a server, and finally make it permanently activated with your MS upgrade key with a few clicks and commands. Sorry I'm in the learning process of this too... i'm buying the $14.99 deal, no need to send proof of purchase... I had windows 7 activated by daz loader and i upgraded it using upgrade offer for 40$. So use upgrade assistant and you will be fine. You can even make a clean instal using dvd or flash as I did.
Basically if you have working SLIC v2-1 BIOS hardmod for W7, there will be no problem. Same for those intelligent ones soft-mods as is the loader from DAZ. Also KMS activated machines as the ones using "Microsoft Toolkit" from CODYQX4 solutions will work fine.

Quick question, if I buy more than one time, do I need to download the iso for each purchase or can I just use the first downloaded iso for all the keys? Thinking of using Win8 on 3 or 4 different computers.
Official info from Microsoft is that you can update with or without product key so you can upgrade it without any issues.

Hello I have non-legal win 7 ultimate 64-bit and I'd like to know if i can upgrade it to legal win 8 through this assistant? I DLed it and got to the point where i chose option (win 8 pro) and now it's asking for data for payment things. Will it work? (I'm considering paypal).
Why nice try? Im asking seriously, it goes straight to paypal, I have it cracked by chew-wga as far as i recall, so no key information in system, in pc details it states that this data is unavailable. Data shown here is quite old, so, who knows? It might not work anymore or something.
If you do not have an existing legal WXP SP3, Vista or Windows 7, your legit Windows 8 key will activate your Windows 8, but technically your copy of Windows 8 is illegal as you do not meet with the licensing agreement. Microsoft makes it very clear that they do not sell you a Windows Operating System, but only license the product to you. If the purpose is for business use, you may have to take this into consideration. Some countries, like Singapore are very strict on copyright materials.
