    Hello guys.
I have a couple VMware windows 7 machines with some SEO hardware-activated software installed on it. I am thinking of upgrading to VMware 12 so I was wondering what should I do to preserve the activation ?

Thank you and Happy Holidays to all!

You could clone the VM and try upgrading it to see if it is affected.

    That's a great idea! Thank you cocachris89

Is it possible to install two VMware of different version on the same physical machine?

I don't think its possible to do so on the same machine. You would need a testing machine for only a couple of hours to see if it does stay registered.

When you perform a VMware upgrade, the UUID, Network MAC address and other hardware (like system Serial) do not change. Hence, the upgrade should work and should not affect your installation. This information is usually maintained in the VMX file.

If you cannot clone your system, then copy the whole folder that contains your test machine/s to a network folder/DVD or USB, perform the upgrade and see. If goes well, well and good, if not, then downgrade VMWare and delete the folders of the Virtual Machines and restore what you copied externally back.
