Hi guys After updating on the second Tuesday of the month, the "Windows \ servicing \ LCU" folder increases of 600Mb In 18 months (life of win10pro) I will have a total of 11Gb. Obtained using Disim ++ cleaning disk after each update. Is there any way to avoid this increase, keeping the system up to date?
Keeping your system up to date is exactly what is causing that directory to increase in size. It is where Windows stores extracted files from the Latest Cumulative Update for when they are needed to update added components, like enabling certain features using the Control Panel or Settings app. You can delete them, WU will just redownload the latest CU if needed. If you run Disk Cleanup and select the Windows Update Cleanup box, it will remove all but the most recent LCUs files.
Thanks Bfoos So if I understand correctly can I delete the first 3 fixes and keep the last one? Or all fixes are necessary and must remain in place
Thanks Enthousiast I deleted the first 3 fixes, restarted, used Sledgehammer to update without finding new files for downloading. so I gained about 2Gb Thanks again to you.
Yes it is safe to remove all of them, but I always keep the latest one. I checked my LCU directory and it had 11GB of data in it from about 6 CU's including the latest. I ran the Disk Cleanup utility (cleanmgr), selected the Windows Update Cleanup option and ran it and it deleted everything but some bits of the latest CU. Gaining me 11GB of disk space.
