win 7 64 bit all preloaded, I made back up dvds and repair disc, one of the drivers was not working so I ran the repair disc, still no luck, so I ran the back up discs and got an error. So I decided to do a full clean install, problem is it no longer shows Acer and will not accept activation key on the side label, I am unsure what version is needed as it now says AMD, and why will my key no longer activate, sorry am noobie
With an Product Key checker you could check your PKey is for which version, like Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate or even Starter. You'll need that exact version for to use your legit key.
To 1.: The individual key on the COA (Certificate Of Authenticity) is an OEM:NONSLP or OEM:COA key. That key must be phone activated, online activation for that key is not possible. The OEM:SLP key. on the other hand, is activated offline. My laptop is ACER, too.
I never had need to activate using the phone activation on the last 2 Acer Laptops I got, last one is an 4752G ond the older was an 5593WMXi. The 4752 came with W7 HP and using the Recovery DVD I wasn't need to activate, even not needed to use the Key from sticker! Only after changing to an Acer W7 Ultimate, I was need to key in the Key I got an Doc from Acer and it activated automatically! No need to call MS! After I changed the OS to W8 Pro, I sold that W7U key to an customer and also he wasn't need to call for activation! The older 5593WMXi came with XP Media Center and I changed to Vista, also bought from Acer. That also wasn't need any phone activation.
DVD includes OEM:SLP key+cert. Together with the SLIC in BIOS this means instant offline activation. If you still have it run it through a keychecker (like the Ultimate one from MDL). This should reveal its channel. Could be Retail or an online-enabled OEM:NSLP (from System Builder or so). But if you use the key from the sticker you must call MS (though both false positives and false negatives exist).
As I wrote, I was getting the Key on an Document titled Certificate of Authenticy, not as Sticker, as and A4 printed Document. That Key wasn't need any online activation. And again, I sold that to an customer who also didn't was need to online activation. As the key was working fine and I had the letter from Acer, there wasn't any need to check the key!
Different license channel, then. Could also have been an Anytime Upgrade key. We should stop the offtopic now, I guess.
