And this is for Ultimate edition right? (with pic #1 showing it as a server edition but put #2 shown Ultimate).

I am running Server 2008 R1 on it already, want to update to server 2008 R2 or win 7. I am trying win 7 first.
I have not run slic dump in the Vm session yet, do I need to?

Ah so you are running Windows 7 in a VM (I totally missed that part sorry), in that case it won't use your BIOS's SLIC. You need to emulate a SLIC when in a VM.

The best way to test things on your system is by creating another partition and then trying to activate the system from there, you would need to install just the certificate and serial.

An example of the VM stuff -- If you were to run SLIC Dump Toolkit from within the VM it wouldn't detect your Dell SLIC 2.1 at all.

I'm a bit paranoid, don't like to patch main systems. So instead of patching Vmware, I patch each VM machine when I want SLIC 2.1 in BIOS.
But if you don't want to do the job each time (it's only a line of text in the config file, and copy whatever BIOS you want in to the folder), then patching VmWare is the best option.

Thanks for the info on the ROM. I did manage to download the file, and will try it.

    Thanks all again!
