Hello all, I get tired of people saying "Oh stick with Win 7 Win 8 is dreadful" now 8.1 is here it's great but you have to spend a little time learning it. With the advent of 8.1 I think Microsoft really are on the way to a truly multi platform system being equally suited to portable and non portable devices, I have a non touch screen i5 laptop which has an SSD setup to boot straight to desktop with no password, the boot time from cold is 9 secs what more could you want ?

I know it is a feauture of my motherbord i have the asus sabertooth Z97 mark 1

It boots faster trough the bios and windows turns on quicker but after that everyting has to load so it is tricky !!

You have the feeling it is realy fast like you said 5 sec but you still have to wait a bit untill windows loads your programs at desktop :tea:

I recently migrated my Dell Inspiron 17R to Windows 8.1 and it seems to take a little longer to boot than with Windows 7 pro. Like OP, I go straight to the desktop and skip the login screen. I'll have to look into the feature fast startup.

Does anyone have any changes they made to the OS to boot faster, or are all your times just out of the box?

I went looking into power options and found that feature fast startup was not enabled. After I enabled it, bootup was quicker. I haven't timed it, but it's low seconds.
