    SOLVED!

So, Im trying to update my Win 8 Pro VL to 8.1 (Oct 17 release) on my desktop but it is stuck at the above stage... I tried 3 times now. Did a backup of the drive before so all 3 times I start from a perfectly running Win 8 system.

All drivers up to date, no issues in Win 8 whatsoever

    Possible info u could need:
    ASUS P8Z77-V Le Plus
    Intel i7 3770k at 4.5Ghz
    16GB DDR3 Geil2100 Ram
Vertex 3 or 4 (forgot) SSD Drive for System

Im installing from a USB3 Stick

stuck at 3% for about 1h now...

    any ideas?

    thanks

go away from the computer and come back in 1 hour exactly. Watched pots will not boil!

seriously, maybe it is doing something, leave it go for an hour. Walk the dog or play bad kitten ^_^ something. See what happens.

    yeah, reruns haha

well... 1h30min in... wiped down my desk and clicked the mouse by accident: the ring-thingy that shows that windows is working stopped :( ... so that one is done also :(

Pressed reset ... BSOD "Bad system config"
Now restoring prev disk w NERO backup.. thank god it only takes 4 min haha

removing USB card-reader and printer and trying again.. maybe driver-issue?

    any ideas?

Im using USB3 stick on USB3 port.. put ISO on there with RUFUS

Ill start the install inside of Win8 (doubleclick setup.exe)

    how to verify iso/hash?
I just downloaded a few hours ago ... WZT copy if I remember correctly

would it even go so far if the iso would be corrupted?

Trying to install now from USB2 port

I tried ... it booted from USB but after I clicked "INSTALL" - "UPGRADE" I got a compatibility warning... something like "please remove media and restart windows normally, then insert media and go on" ... now Im back in WIN8 and installing from there?

EDIT: well, now Im stuck at "Setting up 7%" ... way earlier than in the previous installs lol

Check your iso's hashes with some tool like HashTab. Be sure that ISO is healthy

Re-install windows setup on your usb drive and try to reinstall.

If you get the same error, Try with an optical drive.

If you still get the same error, check your hardware.

Burned DVD and booted from it.
Agreed to terms -> INSTALL -> UPGRADE -> aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand...

"The computer started using the windows installation media. Remove the installation media and restart your computer so that Windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation media and restart the upgrade. [Do not select | Custom [advanced]| to perform an upgrade."

    any ideas, guys?

EDIT: This one is stuck a "Setting up 34% now" ...

EDIT2: aborted this one too. Out of ideas, I hope somebody can chip in :)
