I looked into friend's laptop yesterday. At the shop they put a win 10 pro onto it, but it shows some "unable to activate" error, and when I used one of the 3rd party programs to look at serial key it also said that a win 7 key is detected, but not for which version. Is there a way to trace original version of windows 7 that a key is intended to be used with?
The shop won't take responsibility for their work? If it were my computer I'd be all over them about their shoddy work.
I don't remember what tools I used, I did a wuick google and didn't have time to check up on that since, but I remember it showed serial with added note that win 7 key has been detected in BIOS or something like that.
From what i understand, normally there is not actually a specific key in the bios of OEM windows 7 system, it's a slic table. Because it's not a windows edition specific key, all win 7 editions except enterprise can be installed and legally activated by entering the edition specific key and certificates.
