Hi guys. Been a while since I messed with XP but had to sort a mate out and ended up testing on my test rig. My test rig is a H61 1155 I tested installing XP from disc and it worked fine. I saw summet on the web about Rufus making XP install from a USB, so I thought I would give it a go. Had no luck though. Set my rig to boot from USB but all I see is a black screen with a flashing curser. I was wondering if anybody has used this successfully and could give me a pointer or two. Not vital though but summet I feel I need to do.
Tried all sorts of BIOS settings. Tried all sorts of Rufus Setting. Tried 3 different Win XP images.. Still get black screen with flashing curser... Anybody ???
Well after racking my brains I finally took out my drive and plugged it into my main PC. Opened up disc manager... Cant remember doing it but my test rig drive is set to GPT...Bugger.... Converted it to MBR Would you believe it...Still the same result..
Gunna try Rufus with a Win 7 iso image.... Of course Win 7 worked. used a different USB stick though... Next test use the same stick but for win XP BUGGER IT !!!
Been messing about and came across a site "Easy2Boot". It mentions booting any OS from a USB stick. Read a bit. Downloaded some apps. Watched a couple of video tuts, then had a go. Still no joy. Read a bit more. watched a vid on how to add the DriverPacks.net mass storage drivers to the USB.. It says the Easy2Boot process would select the correct drivers for my board. BINGO. It booted up to start to load Windows XP from the USB stick. WHY OH WHY, did I not think of that before. I could use nLite to add the drivers I need to my .iso then test that image with Rufus. Summet to do tomorrow..If I get time...
