First to introduce myself, I came here years ago (before the forum software upgrade) after I discovered Daz's "Windows Loader" on Kickass Torrents. I got the general impression that this forum was "home" to Daz and his/her projects.

Once here I discovered what appeared to be an entire team of highly interested computer programming types that were busy deconstructing the recently-released Windows 10. It seemed that part of their efforts were intended to crack the protection scheme, and another part involved determining exactly what it was doing that the User would never see, with an eye towards privacy, data collection and a whole slew of other "features" that were very concerning (Cortana, Telemetry, P2P file sharing of updates with neighbors on the network, keylogger, etc...)

So that scared me away from Win10. but just this week I learn that MS support for Win7 is ending, and the "writing is on the wall" so to speak, so now I am looking at possibly moving to Win10, or Win8. (FYI, I already have Win8 installed on another partition and it works just fine for the most part, but I know Win7 and I like it, and all change is always bad.)

So now I'm asking, aware that negative reaction to the initial release of Win10 provoked some changes (is there a Win10.1?), but also I've recently learned that MS expects each User to turn off/disable a whole host of features. I guess I could do that, but I'd rather trust the people here, find a customized Win10 that has all the "spyware" removed, etc... I assume that's been done, given how much time since it was released, researched etc... But it also occurs to me that MS might have managed to make some aspects of it's <s>malware</s> Operating System so inter-dependent on everything else that it can't be removed without disabling something necessary or useful. Read a post here just yesterday about MS's browser "Edge", which said it can't be completely removed from Win10, so I wonder what else there might be.

Looking for recommendations, advice, and whatever information I might need to get back up to speed on the current state of Windows 10. Also feel free to correct me when/if I'm wrong about something. Thanks in advance.

First of all, welcome to MDL.

A lot of misunderstatings in your post, but you won't find any pre-made chopped up iso's on MDL, you can find tutorials and tools for creating one by yourself (so you exactly know what is done to it).

Well okay fine but how about a link to one I can trust? I'm not building my own unless it involves using something like nLite (which I have used before).

Homebrew iso's are not allowed to be shared at MDL, and there is no one to be trusted, all chop it in other ways, from worse to worst, imho.

Really? What happened to this place. As I remember it, you could pretty much say anything about anything, particularly to include this specific topic. Did "something happen"? One other forum I used to be on had some restrictions regarding some topics, but you could still carefully insert the technical truth of things into a conversation, however they were purchased by some company out of Canada and ever since then the entire forum has been a restricted, left-wing, pro-corporation propaganda outlet for companies like MS, Dell, etc...

Also can you please elaborate on the "worse to worst"? I assume that means either the "chopping" people are doing a bad job of it, or Win10 is so badly constructed that there's no way to make it "right" in terms of function and privacy. If that's the case please say so explicitly, because I can always go to Win8, or even Linux if necessary. Just because I don't want to, doesn't mean I can't do so.

As far as i've been active on MDL, no warez or homebrew iso's allowed, if you were a member before 2013, i can't tell if homebrew was allowed back then.

I would never download and install any iso of unknown source.

Chopping is futile, it will only lead to instable systems, most chop clueless and nag when something goes wrong, observation.

But you never bothered to actually mention them. And so here we are 15 posts later and I'm [REMOVED by ancestor(v)] The idea of "spyware" is already been defined, and a long time ago. I remember clearly the people that were cracking into the software, looking at the network traffic, backwards engineering to discover which processes were doing what, etc... There was a high level of skepticism, a high level of intelligence and a high level of desire to communicate with others and share facts, data, opinions, etc... And years later I come back and it's like THIS. I was hoping you'd have said you were some kind of Linux purist, because that's what one normally expects from them, [REMOVED]

What's the purpose of this site, then, if not to deconstruct MS operating systems and look for what's really going on vs. what MS slowly puts out after their problems become impossible to ignore. Why are you here? It's obviously not for the reasons that most of the people that used to be here, were here for. I could have found this feeble, one-liner-at-a-time dribble of information you've "provided" (like pulling teeth) on any of hundreds of other computer forums, where they have Certified MS (contracted) employees that will lose their $10,000 worth of certification if they violate MS dogma. And despite all that, they still put out more information than you do, plus better reading skills and ability to understand the nuance of the English language, even if at the end of the day one gets "the Party line" (meaning the totalitarian communist party line). You've got 21,000 posts (supposedly. Those numbers can be cooked.) and at the end of that long process I've got THIS. You. Why are you even here. Is there anyone else here? What happened to Michaelina? Did you, and/or others, run them all off? Is that your function now? What about Daz. who openly posted about having created and maintained a tool specifically designed to crack Windows protection and activate operating systems.

Did Daz leave too? Leaving you here behind to do WHAT exactly. Do a bad job of relating a less-detailed version of the exact same information that anyone could get pretty much everywhere else? Also, you spelled "ENTHUSIAST" wrong, which is not the most annoying thing about you, but it's certainly on the list.

I close here now. Timothy Whitfield, maybe work on your tone a bit?
