admin command prompt (which means right click command prompt->run as admin)

    chkdsk c: /f

    It may prompt for reboot.

Or try running that command off command prompt on Install DVD.

simply typing "chkdsk" will only scan for errors.

Try chkdsk /f as stated before or chkdsk /r

you can't compare /f to /r those are totally different options! /f just checks for errors whereas /r checks the entire disc for bad sectors which can take up to many hours.

there in no better solution than original Microsoft Disk chceck utility, ! NTFS is Microsoft created and developed file system , no one else can not create better and 100 reliable file system checking tool. If problem still persists ..i think that your hard drive may be defective , try use a diagnostic tool which provide manufacturer of your drive (eg,Western digital-WDDIAGNOSTIC , Seagate-SEATOOLS) .. bye
