You cannot install x64 over x86 you need to format and install x64 version.

you cannot install from 32 into 64. You need to install from scratch using USB or DVD media and boot from there

Along with the above, you do need 64bit Windows, you have 8GB RAM, and are losing over 4GB of it using 32bit

you need to make clean install of win8.1.
with 32bit OS you can't use all your 8GB ram.

What good is that if you can only install 32bit apps ?

Asked that myself...as long as the processor is capable of running a x64 OS, this would be the way to go :good3:.

As Pauldesmond told you, just burn to dvd using imgburn (at slow speeds of 2x or 4x)
Then boot from dvd and in BIOS set your boot order to boot from dvd.

the usb needs to be fat32 if you are booting with uefi, change bios to enable legacy booting and see how your already burnt devices work. Just a guess.

Any iso that someone released of an operating system will have the boot information included.
You just need to burn the OS to a dvd or run an iso to usb flash drive copy program such as RUFUS

If you use a usb and need to boot with UEFI booting you have to keep in mind that the largest file has to be below 4gb since it requires fat32 disc format to boot non-cd/dvd stuff

If you don't want to burn media and wish to install X64 inside X86, you could use imageX or DISM to extract install.wim

    - If install in another drive: extract to the drive, then use EasyBCD add a boot item.
    - If install in same drive: this is tricky, you might end up with no windows loading, better not talk about it. :D

The ISO is already bootable :D. Open 'Nero Burning ROM' and quit the wizard. Choose Recorder/Burn Image and navigate to the ISO location. Check the 'Finalize' option and burn at medium speed, as this is safer for Install Disk Creation.

Like all these guys are saying,
    back up any important data,
download the x64 version of windows 8.1 iso and burn it to a blank dvd..
restart and boot from the dvd, format and off you go to enjoying your full 8GB's of ram which will make a big difference over 4gb on 32bit! :crystal::D

Try Disable SecureBoot from your BIOS first.
