I cleaned installed Windows 10 today on my laptop which already had an activated version of Windows 10 installed, but now its left in a inactivated state, what gives? I did a reset through settings in order to clean install.
I think that he did a clean install firstly, then reset it. (I have seen such cases elsewhere. But I do not have time to test it myself.)
I've been a Windows Insider since the very beginning. Yesterday, I went from 10240 to 10595; and I thought it would be a good idea to do a reset immediately after going to 10595 I did the Reset Method through the Recovery Option in Settings. From the description, it sounded like Windows was going to do a clean install (which it did), but deleting the OS and personal files on Local Disk (C). Shouldn't have altered the activation status since I never made hardware changes. After attempting to get the activation working, I winded up getting the USB Tool from the Windows 10 website, and did a so-called upgrade from 10595 to 10240, but the activation status did not resolve itself. I went through recovery options again and "Reset this PC" = No Change Getting through Microsoft Support is hit or miss I had my legitimate copy of Windows since I've been an insider since beginning of this year. Microsoft promised every Insider, prior to mid-July, that their Insider Build versions would be considered genuine reactivation wouldn't be necessary in any circumstances. I genuinely own this product Its absurd that I have to go through this activation mess.
Nope, however, I had to get Microsoft to verify my PC's identity; then only were they able to assist; they remotely connected to my system, inputted the product key, and was good to go. Your system information is saved on their servers; its your right and duty to ask Microsoft to get things going again if you wish to reinstall.
