My GF laptop came w/ Win10 Home edition so I used my Win7 Ultimate key & it updated her Win10 to Pro. I am wondering after reading the above if the Win10 Home key will be still be in the BiOS when we wipe the Win10 OS & install it again. I don't plan on wiping it anytime soon but just wondering if the BiOS will update w/ the new upgraded version key. TIA
@urie: It's named "ei.cfg" - you have one dot too much. @MrG: Of course, the key is embedded into the device's firmware and thus never deleted.
@Carlos Detweiller, Thanks don't know what I was thinking been using it since Vista. Not just the one but the whole three of them @MrG even if when reinstalling windows from scratch on your GF laptop and you forget to add the pid.txt file it will install and actvate as Home version But you just need to go to System settings and select Change the product key or upgrade your edition of windows, and enter default Pro product key and it will upgrade because you have already established HWID for Pro.
If you need to install the pro version just extract it from the install.wim with GImage X and then put the file in the iso. Don't know why people keep all the indexes.
@coleoptere2007 I was just trying to keep it simple, plus if using ei.cfg he can still get choice of what version and only takes a minute, as for exporting image I don't see the need to do that if using usb you are not tied to cd/dvd size limits.
