The purpose of this thread is to have as much information as possible in one easy to read place. The first post will be updates as information is obtained.
Do you have any information about if people install the Windows 10 insider preview, do they get a genuine copy after release?
While history serves that the insider program gives away a few copies, until the release date, I can not conclusively answer that. I try to keep information in the first thread purely factual, so I won't be including that question/answer at the current time. Thanks for the question though.
I don't know how I could have worded it any better. The free upgrade program offer will run for 1 year, any machine activated with windows 10 during that year will be active and supported by updates for the remaining life of that machine. I included your information in the first post. Thanks.
Gabe has stated all WinTP insiders will have to have a valid 7/8.x license to be elegable for free upgrade. The 4 million plus insiders will not get free passes. as far as the one year thing goes. you have 1 YEAR to install and activate your free copy. Once that is done it is good for the life of the device you install it to. It will not magically stop working after 1 year once you have completed the free upgrade you will be able to clean install at your own convenience whenever you like.
EFA11, you have a way with words So, which of these would you add to your above post: "once you have completed the free upgrade you will be able to clean install at your own convenience whenever you like, either your original 7/8.x or your new Windows 10" "once you have completed the free upgrade you will be able to clean install at your own convenience whenever you like, but only your new Windows 10, not your original 7/8.x anymore"
"once you have completed the free upgrade you will be able to clean install at your own convenience whenever you like, either your original 7/8.x or your new Windows 10" because that license is usable from 7/8x forward to 10 but it does not make the 7 license worthless should you wish to go back to 7 (unless MS changes the validity of a 7 key that has been used to upgrade to 10)
I guess when you use the daz loader in windows 7 and this will happen when you do the Windows 10 upgrade will write a new boot-loader Windows 7 OA loader activation will become non genuine and Windows 10 also! Daz loader activated machines will become non-genuine when trying to upgrade.
Great initiative. This part is slightly ambiguous: Enterprise will not receive the offer, correct. However, I have a KMS activated 8.1 Pro (installed from the "multiple editions" Core/Pro ISO), and have received the offer. So it seems the upgrade is purely edition-specific (no Enterprise), and doesn't care how Windows is activated if the edition is eligible.
Kinotium, Edditted. It is difficult to get this all in an easy to read/understand format. The true difficulty lies when the RTM leak (if it happens) or the 29th arrives, when we truly start to understand the details of Windows 10 activation, and I have to scour every post to get all the information.
