Yesterday I upgraded my Windows 10 Professional-N to latest build 10586. Now when browsing folders with Music I see no file information (cover, artist, title etc... When selecting an MP3 or FLAC file, under Properties -> Details tab there are no data under "Artist" or any other section.

When I first installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 Pro-N in September, I remember I had to install Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10 (microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48231). I did that Today but no changes after restart.

Has anyone experienced this? I removed all default APPS including Store. Maybe some of them are mandatory to display media information in Windows Explorer?

SOLVED: There are a new Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10 available under the name KB3099229. Only this one works for build 10586 or later.

The Windows shell does not natively recognize ID3 tags, it relies on the default file handler to read the file metadata.

Wrong. Windows Explorer reads ID3v2.3 tags since Windows XP so this is not the case and since Windows 10 native support for FLAC (also MKV) has been added, too. The tags were visible until this major update. I'm not sure whether it's because I removed all apps from which some did the magic or else...

    Sorry for double posting.

Found a SOLUTION: There are 2 versions of Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10 available at Microsoft download site:
    • KB3010081 - the old one published 7/30/2015 - no effect on build 10586
    • KB3099229 - the new one published @ 11/9/2015 - WORKS on build 10586 (most likely for earlier and above builds, too).
