Hi i have installed win 10 server 100074. Installation went OK. But at the end cmd popped up asking me to change password. I did it and that's all I got cmd with now on black screen and windows doesn't startup. In cmd I have few options like logout and close, task manager etc. When I close cmd I just get black screen nothing more. Tried to restart it but it always show cmd at the end and windows doesn't start. Any advice?
I had two options windows 10 server recommended and win 10 server with some extra tools I installed first one. And I get cmd on black screen not sure if I should use some command to start windows or what?
Choosed recommended option means option one I think I will have to do it again ? Will try once more. I never used server version before and downloaded it by mistake grrr just wanted to try win 10. See how it look like etc.
OP wrote in Post #3 it were the first (core) used! In other words, just an simple standard server with no GUI! Have to use command prompt. Such installation is suitable for an File and Application Server and would need quite a bit of knowledge to handle! Would recommend to the OP to do a new clean install as Advanced Server!!
Before start installing any Server without any knowledge, get to know what is need to be done and how to work it first!! If you didn't do that, you'll face a lot of problems!!
As above. Took me 10 minutes last night to figure this out. I installed (with local admin tools) version and just had a cmd window and the server manager... If you try to run explorer.exe, you see why there is no gui... it doesnt exist. Thats when it clicked you need to install the features as above.
Hello, I didn't install the first option yet, but you can try to type Code: sconfig in cmd. Then you'll get some options to manage your server settings, f.e. Remote Desktop, WinR[emote]M[anagement], network settings etc., hope, this helps ;-) I'll will install later with the first option and make some test's Addendum #01: With the Datacenter VHD there are a lot of settings, that can't be set with the built-in Administrator-Account; you have to set a new local Administrator-Account. I didn't try to make / change these settings with ISO installation yet, i'll test this later These settings can't be change in ISO-Installation, too Addendum #02: A lot of new things, but both versions are running well (at the moment ;-), I will try Hyper-V & Essentials Edition later
