I installed windows 10 on 2 of my HP laptops. Everything seems to work fine, but the part of sleep or shutdown or restart seems to have a problem. The system closes, but the hardware keep on, and I have to power off the laptop manually by pressing Power Button. I tried HP forums for support but with no true help. I am using mainly HP Zbook 15 Sorry If I posted it on the wrong forum, But I hope to find proper help from smart people on this form.
On some computers Windows 10 19041.xxx, or 2004, such a problem really exist. It is not yet clear exactly what causes this, but it is quite likely that some configuration may cause it. I have the same situation with one computer, but if I use such a command to turn computer off, there's no problem, everything works as should. It's recommended to run as administrator. (For example, make desktop shortcut) Code: %SystemRoot%\SysWOW64\shutdown.exe /f /s /t 00 or %SystemRoot%\system32\shutdown.exe /f /s /t 00
that issue generally happen when... 1 - Video driver is not installed or not updated. 2 - Main board BIOS is not updated. 3 - Windows have been installed in MBR mode instead of GPT/UEFI mode in an UEFI BIOS.
I have different problem on hp laptop sometimes it does not restart I need to power off then power on.
so far no issues on my hp elitebook x360 1030 G3 - have all the bloatware hp drivers and hp software apps and hp security apps installed and updated and latest win 10 2004 ( 19041.329 ) as I have not gone back as insider so no 20h2 updates for me yet - my laptop goes into sleep mode and hibernate mode but no issues returning from those
doing that is bad practice, because you are not really solving the issue, you are just evading/ignoring it, so is not the right way.
not really, because you can use Windows 7/8/8.1 drivers in Windows 10 as a proper fix, instead of diabling fast startup it to avoid fixing the issue.

no such shutdown problems on my bro's new HP Spectre x360 15-df1033dx laptop running Win10 v1909 home I'm not gonna upgrade his HP laptop to v2004 yet until late summer or near end of summer like either late August or early September
that is why you update management engine drivers and management engine firmware as hp and others have put out updates and continue to put updates out depending on model/group of models
I researched and tested this thing. In reality, things are quite different from what has been said so far. There is no problem with the drivers or anything else. The problem is that v2004 has been changed so much that if you use the method provided by Windows Update, ie to store and keep the files and the settings, there is always such a problem and none of the controlling/checking methods shows any error, ie sfc.exe /scannow does not show any error and also Dism check does not show any error. The problem only occurs if the old settings are also preserved, ie perform a clean installation and you do not have any problems. Today, I have already done it myself on all the computers of me and my acquaintances. There is no more choices.
I updated both my HP Laptops to W10 version 2004 from 1909 ( having previously resolved intel management driver fix many revisions ago ) all worked well with no issues. As I stated previously the issue ( not sleeping correctly ) mentioned at the beginning of this post by Dr AMD actually only occurs on specific HP pavillion laptops of a certain age with that specific intel management driver.
I already have latest drivers And my problem is slightly different my laptop does shut down properly, just sometimes when system wants to restarts it closes but does not restart I have to power off and start up again. its intermittant no big deal.
"I already have latest drivers" The fix for my issue was not about the latest drivers its about rolling back to older drivers which resolve the issue completely it was the latest drivers that were causing my particular issue.
