I used the IoT version and the performance feels sluggish. Both using the built in Intel HD Graphics I need to set up the 2500 PC for long term office use. So using Windows 10 LTSC 2021 which is significantly faster may get program incompatibility in the future
When you mean IoT Enterprise 2024 LTSC it's the same as Enterprise 2024 LTSC non IoT, only 5 more years of support and small feature difference. Info: https://forums.mydigitallife.net/posts/1837912
The server version doesn't come with redundant programs at all, so what does it need to be streamlined? Why don't you install it and comment later You always talk about IOT series, you yourself said it runs slowly, from my personal experience, it does not run as fast as the normal version of win10 on old processors I have also tested it on the same platform with 8g memory. After normal installation and use, the system response speed is too slow, even slower than the normal version of win10 without modification. I'm just giving you a suggestion, it's up to you how you choose
@wvv000 can I use server version on desktop like 20348 with no problem? I remember there can be problems with drivers, like graphic ones. Can I restore drivers from a backup with pnputil on server?
Yes you can use Server versions on desktop. It has been a thing since server 2003. You will need to manually start some services like audio, wireless and some software might detect that you are running windows server. Drivers shouldn't be an issue. @ccrqc357 On that hardware and with the purpose that you have, I would stay with windows 10 or a light Linux distribution
Yeah that's what I mean iOT is just 5 years more support But isn't Windows 11 LTSC already debloated to run on lower end POS/iOT devices ? Is there any incompatibility with the Intel HD driver casing the low performance?
Interlude, the problem of poor performance has existed since Win10 IOT, which has little to do with Win11. The POS and other devices you mentioned do not run many programs, so it has nothing to do with your request. In addition, embedded manufacturers will customize the image twice instead of installing it directly on the device with the original ISO image. " There are many recovery images of IOT manufacturers available for download on the Internet. Dell, a well-known computer manufacturer, also has downloads. You might as well download one directly, unpack it and study it to see if they are what you described, bloated, streamlined, and have any built-in programs. Then tell me your understanding of the image. "
Yeah that's what I've done Linux mint & Windows 10 LTSC 2021on i5 4200u laptop. I can figure things out problem is the i5 2500 desktop PC that I'll set o for long term office usage I'll set up for a relative
Make sure you have Enough RAM and Try use SSD.. I have i5 1.70ghz with turbo 3.80ghz never got slow down on i5 with 16GB ram and 512GB SSD.. Not bit trouble.. ATGPUD2003
Not my thread or issue personally cuz i dont think i'd try win11 on hardware that old, but does win11 even have a graphics driver for accelerated graphics on there? Since MS acts like nothing before coffee lake 8th gen is supported for cpu, i'd assume the gpu wouldn't be either. I thought I remembered reading of someone hacking a win10 driver for old ivy bridge era (3000 series) gpu to work on windows 11 recently (done too much reading to remember where/or even if on this site) which would imply it wasnt working originally. Just a thought. I thought their problem seemed valid in that 'should win11 be slower than win10 otherwise being the same' - a nonsupported gpu acceleration could be one cause, even if there's some generic all vga crap driver that would still show an image.
Enable net framework 3.5 + directx 9 aka dxwebsetup install full directx 9 support ( recommanded for legacy Intel amd gpu )+ ssd for os like Windows 10/11
This is quite an interesting suggestion. I got an older sandybridge device with an Intel HD 3000 running Windows 11. Performance is fairly alright when turning down the transperancy/effects etc. Using the standard WU driver. Will give this a shot to see if the Sign In /Welcome screen improves.
