I have Dell Dimension E520, but I can't activate? After a bit of searching I found out that I need to mod my bios in order to actiave Windows 7. Is there any other way of activating without modding my bios? :)

Yes, its a known fact that only Vista loader 2.0 works on dells, go to the Program based loader by Daz, and select older loader. This will be implemented in 7Loader 1.6 but for now he is the only guy who has done it for win7.

You could just check out the pinned topics and you could find a pre-modded bios for you.

What happens if the flashing ***** up? Is there any chance of this happening?

Very low chance of your flash screwing up, i would have done over 30 bios updates between four computers and never had a problem yet.

Is there any other way? Is there a fix for a bricked comp?

Yes, there are restore methods, nearly all boards have them, but as long as no windows programs interrupt the process and make your system freeze then it is safe. Go ahead and try the windows flasher. Just do not have any programs running, and have your anti-virus disabled so that it will not interrupt the flash process. If you have an Intel NIC laying around you could mode the ROM on it if you are really paranoid of flashing the bios. I would go with the modded BIOS though over loaders and NIC mods if it is available, which it is.

No need to wait for it to hit shelves. It's fully activated with the OEM SLP Keys provided. To my knowledge none of the OEM keys have been blacklisted.

No BIOS flashing is needed with Daz's lo@der, though it has the option in case you have already modded your BIOS. From what I understand, the E510 Bios does not have SLIC, so it cannot be modded. My BIOS was DM051 Bios Revision A07. E520 may be different.

On Daz's program, you go the bottom section of the installer menu where it says Soft user mods. This is for people with unmodded BIOS. For the Dell E510, I used the second option 'use the old loader' and it worked like a charm. Initially I tried the default lo@der and it inserted the Dell OEM Key, but still listed 30 days activation. I used the unistall option and repeated the install with the older lo@der option and it worked. I have Dell 700m laptop that activated fine with the default lo@der. I would recommend doing a fresh install of win7 if you have messed around with a lot of different lo@ders. Even uninstalling them, it can cause some issues using Daz's.

It's looks like your BIOS has SLIC 2.0 as Urie mentioned. It's not the same BIOS as my E510 which I believe does not have SLIC 2.0 which is why it needs the old loader to work. If you have no luck with the loader, then you may be better flashing BIOS. I am sure there are tons of people on here that can guide you in the right direction for that.

You do not need to use a bios mod mate. For the loader all you got to do is install it. BTW go for Hazar's 7loader 1.6.1 now. If you want to activate without a loader then you will need to flash your bios. The loader standalone does not need a different bios to work because it is all software based. To find Hazar's 7loader 1.6.1 just google "7loader 1.6.1 Hazar" it will be the first one.
