    The following are to pieces of a thread I have on social.technet. I have done everything I have found to do. Haven't given up on them, but they sent me here for links to iso download. Any help you guys can offer will be much appreciated. Can't post the link because of my New status.

    Bought my computer on ebay & don't have repair disk or reinstall disk. Had started a backup disk, but on disk 12 I gave up. Is genuine- have always been able to update etc.

    Anyway a good while back my device manager came up blank, I couldn't find any easy fix to it, & everything was running fine so I just left it alone. Well now we are trying to install a wireless printer & it all comes back to the device manager being blank. Have all services started, the permissions are correct, the sfc scan came up clean & combofix fixed things to no avail. REALLY do not want to reinstall -have 200+ GB on now. Can't imagine starting from scratch. But I guess I will if I have to. Thanks for any help you can give me.

    Plug & play is set at automatic, and won't let me change it to restart or refresh. & the permissions are set where they are supposed to be. I did the sfc with elevated prompt. I also set the device manager to run as a snap in. Nothing has helped.
    Oh, and this is Windows 7 Enterprise. Was looking at the links to DL it if necessary, and it isn't there. Coming to the end of my rope.
    Sigh

    Open an elevated Command Prompt and type: sfc /scannow

    Hit enter and let it scan, if it finds any missing or damaged system files, it should replace them and prompt you to to reboot

    Alternatively, you could run an upgrade of the same OS over the top of the damaged one, leaving all of your programs installed and data intact, and repairing the OS - just download and burn / make USB, an ISO of the same version Windows

    Make a DVD or USB stick installer from the ISO of Windows 7 Enterprise, run setup from inside of your broken Windows and choose "Upgrade"

    Even though it is the same OS, it will allow the upgrade and replace your Windows install with a new one, except because it is an upgrade, it will not touch your data or installed programs (200GB+) - it will just fix the OS

    Similar to how Windows 8's new "Refresh" function works

    Thanks both of you. Either link? Mine is 64 bit- if that has anything to do with the x86 & or x64.

    x64 = 64 bit.

    Btw, any specific reason for using Enterprise??

    Actually I bought it (the computer) on ebay. Just found out what enterprise was used for when I started troubleshooting this here a few days ago. Hadn't gone looking for it - just was a good deal on the specs. 4GB ram & 500 GB HDD. Decent vid card (I'm not playing any major games) got it for $180 about 2 years (give or take) on an overnight auction. - Never set your stuff to go off in the middle of the night on ebay- lol.

    that can happen when too many connections are connected to the server. It will reject until slots open.

    Ok Dl it & came to work on it & now I got an immenent failure message, but it won't boot at all. DPS says completion code 4 - suggests replacement. - Is that what I'm going to have to do? & Will the DL I got from Tito's link fully install Win 7 sp1 if I buy a new drive? Thanks again.
