First post. Please excuse my newbieness. I am trying to learn about this area. I realize a lot of this may be covered somewhere. I have several Dells. I have always been able to install any Dell OEM OS (XP, Vista) I have on any of them, no activation required. I am learning about the issue with Windows 7. My SLIC was 2.0. Through a Bios update from Dell, it is now 2.1 (running XP now) So, is that enough to install a Dell OEM Windows 7 DVD on it ?
if you do have a 2.1 slic now then yes, if you have a dell win7 dvd you're able to install with no activation, otherwise you can use any oem and import the matching dell certificate and use a oem key to suit the version
