I am referring to this loader.

I've never had luck with software loaders in the past. How good is this Windows 7 loader?

I have figured out how to load Windows 7 onto a flash drive to install it, and I know there is driver software available for Windows 7. What I am worried about is if I fail at installing Windows 7 my netbook will be junk.

There is no optical drive of course, and I am not sure if Windows XP can be installed via flash drive. Also, I am not sure how to go about activating XP on an OEM system like this.

With Vista or Windows 7 it's usually easy with OEMs because all you need is to check for SLIC 2.0 or 2.1 with Everest, load a certificate, and load a SLP Key. I have no idea what to do when it comes to Windows XP.

Still I would rather have Windows 7 installed, because then I know I can always reinstall via the flash drive if something goes wrong.

HP doesn't even have a separate partition for recovery, they expect you to buy an external DVD burner and make a system image of your hard drive using software which comes with the system.

Also I plan to load Windows 7 Home Premium on the laptop. I assume any loader will work.

    Thanks.

Well I found a tutorial on loading XP via a flash drive.

I also found the XP Home Product key underneath the laptop.

Can I use any version of XP Home? Does it matter if it's OEM or retail? Does it have to be directly from HP?

    XP Home Edition ULCPC

Do I need to get that exact version.

This is just in case I can't get the Windows 7 loader to work.

Thanks for the info. I will check those out as well, but I already figured out how to load via flash drive. I guess I am asking more questions about XP, which doesn't really belong in these forums.

Basically, I just want confirmation that Windows 7 loader works. I will ask some more questions in the XP section to make sure I understand what to do in case Windows 7 doesn't load.
