I don't know if it's the right place to ask for help with this issue, but thanks in advance. I have a Windows 7 machine with 4 SATA hard drives and they are making strange noises, like "trrrrrk" :D if I use ubuntu or xp the noise goes away, what can I do? I don't wanna go back to xp but neither kill my HDDs

You need to test your HDD to find out if it's not a hardware problem, you can use the following software:
    -HD Tune Pro 5.0
    -CrystalDiskInfo
    -HDDScan
To check for erros on the disk, before to take a decision.

Unplug all but your boot drive to determine which drive is making the noise. Plug them in one by one to find it. Then you can right click the drive from Explorer, properties, tools, error-checking, check now, check "scan for .. bad sectors", and reboot.
