Consider the following scenario: 1) Install 7600 (original SP0) 2) Install Microsoft Virtual PC (KB958559/977206), build 7600 3) Install SP1, and the Virtual PC components are updated to 7601 So if you install SP1 onto an existing system that has VPC, both the core OS and VPC components are 7601. Now, consider this scenario: 1) Install 7601 (integrated SP1) 2) Integrated SP1 does not include Virtual PC, so install Virtual PC, but it's build 7600 3) ??? But if you install VPC after you install SP1 (e.g., if you use an integrated disc or if you install SP1 before installing VPC), you will get 7601 for the core OS, but the VPC components are still stuck at 7600. So... um, any chance that the leakers have a copy of the updated 7601 VPC?
Yes, that's a last resort. But ideally, I'd like to be able to have updated VPC installers... I know it's a long shot, but if anyone has those installers... It irks me that Microsoft would make VPC a part of Windows (with matching build numbers and an installation via a .msu file) but not actually integrate it into Windows.
This is probably reason why SP1 RTM is not ready for OEMs yet... lacking of supporting software like VPC, WAT etc. However new VPC probably exists already, we just dont have it yet.
Hmm, so it looks like the Russians have a lot of post-SP1 updates (though some, like KB2000011 through KB2000021, are almost certainly dummy updates to test the servicing stack). wzor.net/page/w7_postSP1updates_client-server.html But they are not going to release them. I wonder if one of them is the updated VPC installer that I've been looking for. Anyone here know them well enough to ask?
Wild guess, but i dont think it is. There should be update with same KB number, around 10MB(or a bit under) for both x86 and x64 and there isnt any.
